Ravens are members of the Family Corvidae, which also includes crows, magpies, and jays. These birds are among the most intelligent in terms of their adaptability, ability to learn, and their social organization. The Rev. Henry Ward Beecher, as quoted in Candace Savage's book Bird Brains, suggests that ". . .if men had wings and bore black feathers, few of them would be clever enough to be crows. . ." (or ravens).
